I thought this was rather interesting, divorce rates seem to be dropping but affairs are increasing.  People can’t afford to divorce now so they cheat which would just make things worse.  When the economy is prosperous I suppose people are more willing to “upgrade”.

New ‘State of Our Unions’ Report Focuses on Money and Marriage During Great Recession

December 7, 2009 — It’s a bad time to be a working-class man with no college education. Such men have borne the brunt of job losses since 2007, and new research finds that men are 61 percent less likely to be happy in a marriage if they work fewer hours than their wives.

The study predicts that the so-called “mancession” will undercut marriage in working-class communities, furthering a “divorce divide” that has been growing since the 1980s between couples with college degrees and those with less education.  –more

According to Reuters, London bankers have been very naughty this last year. That is because of the recession. Many feel “reviled” by society and ignored by their spouses. Because they can’t afford to get divorces due to the recession, many have taken to having extra marital affairs. Specifically, they have been patronizing a website called Illicitencounters.com which boasts 380,000 members across Britain, 20,000 of which work in the financial services industry according to the Reuters report.
